    The Job:
    A Design Engineer will be part of a team who will be involved during the complete product life cycle. This will include concept derivation, detail design, prototyping, validation (testing), tooling, ensuring a smooth transition into the production process and support once in production.

    Skills Needed / Main Accountabilities:
    A sound understanding of fundamental physical theories. / A sound knowledge of general engineering principles. /Ability to work from either a verbal or written brief. /A creative, but practical approach to problem solving and design development. /Ability to research background information to enable informed decisions to be made.
    Ability to plan ahead, prioritise tasks and to co-ordinate with the work of others.
    Ability to communicate and justify ideas with three dimensional sketch models: in card, foam and engineering materials, as well as traditional 2D presentation.
    A working knowledge of CAD is useful, additional 3D CAD (particularly Unigraphics) would be an advantage.
    Ability to validate designs. Deciding what testing is required, proposing test methods, designing simple test rigs and evaluating the results are crucial to proving the design.
    Ability to minimise the number of iterations to deliver a solution.
    Clear logical thought and attention to detail, including accurate recording of notes, sketches and correspondence on a daily basis.
    An appreciation of a range of manufacturing techniques, particularly the design constraints imposed by injection moulding, as well as sound working knowledge of materials and processes.
    Ability to simplify assembly methods throughout the design process.
    Ability to communicate clear and precise instructions directly to suppliers and become involved in overseeing part approvals.
    Ability to work on a number of tasks concurrently without loosing focus.
    An appreciation of the impact of design changes upon other departments within the organisation, for example controlling part count and costs.
    Commitment and flexibility needed to ensure deadlines are always achieved and the design is right first time.

    Degree in an Engineering/Industrial/Product Design principle

    The Job:
    Design of printed circuit boards for domestic appliances.

    Skills Needed / Main Accountabilities:
    Product specification:
    Agreement of the PCB size and other mechanical constraints
    Liaison with product design groups to ensure product fit
    Identification of the best PCB technologies to suit the requirements of each project
    Electronic design:
    Design PCBs (single sided, double sided and multilayer) for mains voltages, high currents as well as logic level designs.

    Good knowledge of High Voltage (up to 250v) PCB design
    Good knowledge of High Power (up to 20A) PCB design
    Good knowledge of EMC issues, particularly related to PCB design
    Good knowledge of Schematic capture & PCB layout CAD tools(preferably Mentor Graphics Expedition or Mentor Graphics Autoactive RE)
    Some mechanical drawing experience using CAD tools
    IPC certification(desirable)
    Experience of Mentor Graphics(desirable)
    DFM (design for manufacture) experience(desirable)
    Self-motivated with good communication, organisational and planning skills
    Team player able to rapidly integrate into a multi-product design team

    The job:
    You will maintain thermo-mechanical and structural models of products to provide key design information such as stresses,strains,deflections,casing temperatures,product energy consumption and cycle time.

    The Job:
    Support the test department in validating the performance and robustness of pre-production and prototype components,subassemblies and products against their design specification./Ensuring that testing and validation is completed successfully in line with project time scales./Working closely with the Dyson Design Engineers and Test Engineers,setting up,running component and sub assembly tests and feeding back results./The ability to react quickly to short term goals but still maintaining longer-term test objectives./Having responsibility for ensuring that tests are carried out to Dyson Standards or appropriate national and international standards./Analysis and reporting on test results/The maintenance of test records for rapid data retrieval and interrogation./Being proactive in supporting the product design process by recommending creative solutions to the design engineers as a result of test data.

    This self-starting and motivated candidate will have strong practical and theoretical mechanical engineering background preferably in product validation or performance testing and recognise the importance of high quality test data and a right first time approach with a strong drive for results.The individual must proactively approach the role./You would be expected to work closely with the engineering teams developing new Dyson products and carry out the validation of design concepts and prototypes against the design specification. /This role is mix of 'hands on'testing activity, data acquisition, engineering analysis of results and cross team communication. You would be expected to drive your work activity and manage the resources available to you in order to meet challenging project timescales. A practical understanding of test equipment (data-loggers, thermocouples etc)is required in addition to the ability to understand the goals of the tests and take corrective action or seek advice as required./The candidate must posses the ability to design tests that give statistical confidence in the product robustness.This will include sample size selection, appropriate duty cycle and test stress selection followed up with failure mode analysis./Knowledge of statistical analysis and measurement systems analysis techniques(eg: Weibull analysis and gauge R&R) is required./IT skills would typically be competency in Ms Office applications such as Excel, Word and Project.A working knowledge of Minitab or similar would be a distinct advantage./Effective communication is essential in this role.Not only does this include excellent oral and written skills but also the ability to analyse and question requests.

    Qualifications/Competencies/Experience Required:
    Educated to degree level in mechanical engineering or engineering science.(Essential)/The successful candidate would have experience in a product development,test or validation role.(Essential)/Experience in data acquisition.(Desirable)/Six Sigma Green Belt or similar.
